Trial Policy
Instrument, Bocal & accessory trials are 7 days from the date of delivery. If more time is needed, please reach out to the instrument specialist that initiated your trial to request an extension. Please note that extensions are determined on a case-by-case basis.
Once you’ve inquired about a product through our website, an instrument specialist will reach out to you to collect more information about your needs. All trials require contact information, a reference check, copy of a valid driver’s license, and matching billing address & credit card information prior to shipment.
New & used instruments, bocals, necks, barrels, bells, mouthpieces and ligatures.
Instruments and bocals returned as part of the trial will be inspected upon return and must be in new condition. All accessories included with new instruments should NOT be used during the trial period. A replacement or restocking fee will be charged to the customer for damaged, used or opened items.

Rental Policy
Submit an inquiry through our website to be connected with an instrument specialist. They will be able to determine if an instrument is available for rent during your preferred rental dates. Initial rental fees including round-trip shipping, asigned rental contract and a reference check are required prior to shipping.
All rentals require primary, secondary and employer contact information, a reference check, copy of a valid driver's license, and matching billing address & credit card information prior to shipment. A valid credit card is required to stay on file during the duration of the rental.
Prior to shipping, customers are required to pay 2 months of rent and round-trip shipping. Customers may rent for as little or as long as they like. Any unused rental days are refunded back to the customer once the instrument is returned and inspected.
All repairs and routine maintenance must be completed at MMI. Damage from neglect, repairs completed by another shop or misuse of the instrument other than performing indoors in a band/orchestra setting are the responsibility of the renter. Routine maintenance completed at MMI as a result of normal use is covered under the monthly rental fee.
Shipping for maintenance is the responsibility of the renter at a discounted rate.
Shipping, Returns & Exchanges
Shipping times vary based on customer locations, the type of product being shipped and the type of shipping service that the customer pays for. For more details please contact an instrument specialist.
14 days from delivery receipt or in-store invoice date. Items will be inspected upon return, must be free from damage, alteration and in new condition to be eligible for a full refund. *Some exclusions apply.
No returns allowed for purchased items that originated from a trial, as all sales are final. We encourage trials to ensure you are satisfied with your selection prior to purchasing.
A 3% restocking fee will be applied to return instruments purchased directly from the website. Instruments may be returned with prior authorization within 7 days from the date of delivery; no exceptions. MMI must be notified by email indicating a “Request for Return” at mmi@mmimports.com. Customers pay for return shipping & are provided a pre-paid UPS label. The instrument must be in new condition and include all original wrapped & sealed items. Instruments shipped outside the U.S. are not eligible for returns, sales are final.
Reeds, instruments, bocals, mouthpieces, barrels, bells, necks, tube cane, shaper tips, method books, books, non-defective cane & reeds.
Customers are responsible for return shipping costs. For customers outside of the U.S., please consider the additional costs of shipping and customs for returns. A pre-paid label at a reduced rate may be purchased from MMI. Call 612-331-4717 to inquire.
Defective products such as bassoon and oboe reeds or processed cane, may be exchanged or replaced with confirmation of defect. MMI double reed staff must be notified immediately upon delivery of product to be eligible for an exchange.
Financing
We offer financing through United Midwest Savings Bank, Noteworthy Federal Credit Union and Synchrony. These institutions can offer monthly payment plans once you’ve applied.
Each financing institution offers their own interest rates and offerings.
United Midwest Savings = 12.99% at a fixed rate between 6-60 months; $1000 minimum and is available on serialized items only.
Noteworthy Federal Credit Union = Loans starting at 5.25%-8.25% with a wide selection of fixed rates & tiers. A 10% downpayment is required to initiate the loan.
Synchrony = Special limited time rates are available from select manufactures and range from 6-18 months interest free financing. For more information, please see our Financing Page.

Warranty Policy
New instruments, most open box and used instruments. *Exceptions do apply.
2-year crack warranty and 1-year adjustment warranty for most new oboes, English horns, and clarinets, and a 2-year maintenance warranty for most new bassoons.
MMI warranty covers all necessary repairs and routine maintenance during normal wear of the instrument. Repairs include, but are not limited to: crack repair, pad replacement, tuning, re-corking, and mechanism adjustments. All warranty repairs must be done at MMI or the manufacturer’s location, unless authorized by MMI. Failure to comply may void the warranty.
Warranty does not cover repairs necessary due to abuse, negligence, or incompetent repairs done by outside repair shops. The warranty is only applicable to the original owner of the instrument.
Within the first 6 months of the instrument purchase date, MMI will pay a one-time, one-way shipping cost to return the instrument after the warranty repair. The customer is responsible for any additional shipping costs thereafter.
MMI can offer a rental instrument while repairs are being completed, depending on availability. The rental rate is prorated and is 50% off of the normal monthly rate.
Turnaround times vary, but our repair technicians do their best to return instruments as quickly as possible. On average repairs take between 1-2 weeks to be completed.

Yes! Currently extended warranties are available at the time of purchase for new instruments. Please inquire about extended warranties that may be available on at the time of purchase on open box or used instruments.

Payment Options
We accept Visa, MasterCard, Discover, and American Express as well as personal and cashier’s checks. PayPal payments are accepted through our online store.

We accept wire transfers for international orders (Canada orders may use credit card as a payment method). All payments and fees associated with the wire transfer are the responsibility of the customer. Please call or email us for more details.
Yes! MMI gift cards may be purchased and used in-store and online.
Instrument Appraisal
Contact an instrument specialist to provide the make, model and serial # of the instrument you would like to have appraised. If you have any historical information such as age, playing history and pictures to verify the instrument these will be necessary to provide the most accurate appraisal.
We appraise the instruments and their auxiliaries that we specialize in at MMI: oboe, bassoon, clarinet and saxophone.
For a $25 fee, MMI will supply a letter for insurance purposes, which states the replacement value of an instrument. This service is free for instrument purchased through MMI.
Consignment
Feel free to call and speak with an instrument specialist about your consignment instrument. We will be happy to discuss current value, model and player trends and other concepts to consider when selling your instrument. All consignment instruments must be evaluated in-person by a repair technician and an instrument specialist to determine if it’s eligible for consignment at MMI. Any repairs that are required must be completed at MMI and paid for prior to listing the instrument for consignment. MMI’s commission fees:
15% = Items that sell for $2001 or more
20% = Items that sell for $2000 or less
Consignment instruments can stay up to 2 years. We encourage customers to check in regularly to determine interest and to be more aggressive with their pricing if an instrument sits too long.
Yes, consignment instruments can be removed at any time. Owners are responsible for all shipping charges to have the instrument returned to them.
